Marshfield Dog Park Celebrates New Lighting System

Since 2008, Marshfield’s canines have had a fun and safe area to romp and play thanks to the fundraising efforts and community contributions of Friends of the Marshfield Dog Park, with the support of the Central Wisconsin State Fair. Starting Friday, the park is proud to further improve safety with a new lighting system.

“Marshfield residents work a variety of different working shifts and some have been visiting the Dog Park during night hours (even in the dark),” said Steve Coy, Treasurer with Friends of the Marshfield Dog Park. “The new lights work from a timer button at both the North and South entrances that turn the lights on for 20 minutes. Patrons can push the button again for additional lighting. The park is officially a 24 hour facility now!”

This Friday, the Dog Park will host a “Light Up the Dog Park” event at 8:30 PM on Friday, August 19 to celebrate the new lighting system.

“The public is welcome and will get a chance to bring their dogs and officially use the park at night,” said Coy. “We hope that you are able to join us!”

Located at the corner of 21st Street and Peach Avenue, the Dog Park features 4.3 acres of fenced-in lawn for dogs (and their human caretakers) to enjoy. Maintenance is managed by a Friends group, elected Board, and many volunteer efforts.

“There is no paid staff,” said Coy. “The City of Marshfield has provided in-kind support in the form of snow removal and mowing.”

Ongoing expenses are budgeted and paid by the Friends of the Marshfield Dog Park, with the primary fundraising for the Dog Park being a beer concession that takes place during the Central Wisconsin State Fair each year.
