A local explorer sampled Rivers Tavern on its opening day and shared their experiences with us. If you’ve been there, let us know your thoughts in the comments!
The name might be different, but the dining experience at Rivers Tavern remains much the same as its predecessor, Di Lucas Italian Steakhouse, Seafood & Spirits.
After the latter chose not to renew its lease at The Holiday Inn and Conference Center, the hotel decided to develop their own restaurant. The Tavern pays homage to Marshfield’s first one-room boarding house and earliest permanent settlement, named after owners Louis and Frank Rivers.
Though it may be Marshfield’s newest restaurant, the cuisine is much the same as other establishments in town, featuring burgers (including a build-your-own option), specialty pizzas, seafood, salad, chicken, sandwiches, and a lounge for more of a pub feel.
The chef has brought new flavor to the restaurant, however the dining experience is still lacking, with extended wait times for food and drink, a half-empty salad bar, and absentee service.
By far, the cheese curds were the best part of the dining experience. Served on a clean white plate, they were not greasy and extremely good, standing up comfortably to the best in town.
When it came time to pay, the credit card machines were not working and cash was the only way to pay. We expect in time this will change.
According to management, in the next 18 months the restaurant will undergo a complete remodel to complement the hotel’s remodel.
In summary, the culture of the restaurant was much the same as before, but the food was better (kudos to the chef!).
Overall, we will definitely go back, but we look forward to the hotel updating its service staff.
