Cross Country Skiing

One of the best ways to experience the beauty of Wisconsin winters is to swish through the scenery on cross-country skis. Here is a list of some of the area cross-country ski trails that would be great to try. We encourage you to check out websites to check about any specific rules or fees that might apply.

Marshfield School Forest

Directions: The School Forest is located 13 miles southwest of Marshfield on County Road N just 0.6 miles east of County Road V near Lindsey.
Description: Nearly 10 kilometers of trails groomed for diagonal striding and skating cross-country skiing through the 320 acre School Forest. The terrain provides a challenging, scenic ski experience for all levels of skiing proficiency. Snowshoeing is available on separate trails.

Powers Bluff Park

Directions: Located 15 miles southeast of Marshfield. The area can be accessed from U.S. Highway 10 or from STH 73 via County Highway E.
Description: Seventy acres of Powers Bluff is a Scientific Preservation Area. There is a 1.5 mile self-guided nature trail. Indian dance rings and burial grounds are preserved.

Richfield Area Ski Touring Trail
Location: 8183 Heggelund Lane, Marshfield, WI 54449

Directions: Located seven miles north of Pittsville on County Trunk Highway A, and then one-half mile east on Heggelund Lane.
Description: Includes a plowed parking lot, a covered starting area with map board and toilet.  he ski touring trail is approximately five miles long. There is also a 2 mile and 1 mile trail marked. It is routed across open fields, through forests and along and across Puff Creek to provide additional scenic value.

Nepco Lake County Park Ski Touring Trail

Directions: Located one-half mile south of Wisconsin Rapids on County Highway Z.
Description: Includes a plowed parking lot, an information board with map and toilets. There is currently a total of 4.4 miles (7.1 km) of trail.

The trails offer a variety of terrain from easy to moderately difficult.
