Dog Park Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Event

Ten years ago, a vision for a place that dogs could run free came to reality with the formation of the Paws ‘N Play Marshfield Dog Park by the Fairgrounds.

To celebrate the anniversary, a free event will be held October 6th from 10-2 p.m. and includes demonstrations, games, and prizes. Donations of dog food will be accepted for Clark County Humane Society and Marshfield Area Pet Shelter.

Resident Dennis Boucher was involved in the original search for the site for the dog park.
“There was no place in Marshfield to take a dog to let it run free,” he explained. After the idea was brought to the Parks & Recreation Committee, it was suggested that a private group would be ideal to take on the project. After looking at a few locations, the current lot by the Fairgrounds was chosen.

“It was win-win situation,” said Boucher, “and since we’ve been there, we’ve planted trees where the Fairgrounds wanted them.” Over the years, convenient additions like small shelters have been added to the property, which is enclosed by a fence.

The anniversary event will take place at the dog park (see below for schedule). Local veterinarians will discuss pet-related topics. Central Wisconsin Country Store will talk about how to treat lawns to rid it of fleas and tics. The 4-H will conduct a dog rally demonstration.

There will also be the chance to microchip or adopt dogs. Register to win door prizes and guess the number of doggie bones for a prize. Free LED collars are given out to the first 100 attendees. Due to the crowd, dogs should be leashed or left at home. Bleachers are available to sit and watch the presentations.
