What to Do After the Dairyfest Parade

Dairyfest marks the start of June Dairy Month. And while the Parade on Main Street is the biggest event, don’t forget that there are so many other great, family-friendly events that continue the celebration all weekend long.

Along with old favorites, like the Pie and Ice Cream Social at Upham Mansion, there are several events on Saturday that are new to the celebrations of Dairyfest. Wenzel Family Plaza will serve as the new location for some of those activities. Here are some options:

Lion’s Fishing Contest, 8:00am-4:00pm Wildwood Park Upper Pond – $1 registration fee. Fishing contest for kids 12 years of age and younger. Every child receives a prize that was donated by local businesses! Chance to win a grand prize! Prizes include rods, toys, food coupons, fishing tackle, and many other items. Some rods and reels will be available to use, but you are encouraged to bring your own equipment. Bait will be supplied. Sponsored by Marshfield Lions Club

New This Year: “United We Can” BMO Harris parking lot, 8 am – 2 pm Help stock the pantries and get creative with this community activity. Get involved by doing a canned goods drive in your business, church, family, etc. Then come on down and create a sculpture from those canned goods. Prizes awarded, raffle baskets to win – all to help those less fortunate. Sponsored by Marshfield Area United Way and a Leadership Marshfield project group Class of 2019.

USA Sanctioned Men’s & Coed Softball Tournament, 9:00am-10:00pm Central Wisconsin State Fairgrounds – Free admission. Concessions sponsored by the Marshfield Softball Association.

North Wood County Historical Society 40th Annual Pie and Ice Cream Social, 10:00am-3:00pm 212 West 3rd Street Come join them for their 40th annual Pie & Ice Cream Social. Enjoy ice cream and homemade pies – like Grandma used to make. There will be a variety of kids’ games, live music and over 24 baskets to be raffled off to lucky winners. You can take a stroll through the Heritage Rose Garden or tour Governor William Upham’s home. There is no cost to tour; however, donations are always appreciated.

ACO Wisconsin State Championships of Cornhole, 5:00-10:00pm Central Wisconsin State Fairgrounds Expo Building, 513 East 17th Street Event Times: Friday, May 31 – Gates open at 5:00pm and close at 10:00pm Juniors, Seniors & Women’s’ – Singles competitions take place between 5:30pm and 8:30pm. Beer garden on-site. Everyone is invited to play the sport that is FUN for everyone! $1,000 in cash and prizes to be awarded. On the Moo-ve Wenzel Family Plaza, 12 pm – 5 pm Sponsored by: Time Federal Savings Bank On the Moo-ve was developed in response to the rising demand by consumers to know how dairy farmers care for their cattle and why dairy foods are a critical component of a healthy, balanced diet. On the Moo-ve features a life-size fiberglass cow that can be “milked” and two interactive displays. Come quiz your dairy knowledge!

Music in the Plaza Wenzel Family Plaza from 3 pm – 6 pm The Downtown Friday Night’s concert series, Dangerfest Concert Productions, and Chestnut Center for the Arts are teaming up to bring a varied slate of live local music to Dairyfest’s afternoon festivities in the Wenzel Family Plaza. Marshfield’s own Aaron Lee Kaplan will kick things off with his distinct brand of acoustic blues material, followed by the country sounds of Stevens Point’s Desperate Ottos. Join us as we rock into the early evening with the groovy sounds of Wausau’s Bourbon House. There is no charge to enjoy!
