New Library to Celebrate Grand Opening

Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library to Celebrate Grand Opening

We’ve all seen the new Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library rise from the dust and become the impressive reality it is now.

Now, said library leaders, it is time to party and to say a big thank you to the community.

“The Library is hosting an appreciation event recognizing Library supporters, as well as the many community organizations and individuals who make Marshfield a great place to live, learn, work and play,” said Lori Belongia, Director of the Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library. “Please join us in a celebration of all the great things that are happening here at the Library and in our community.  There will be music with local musicians, demonstrations, refreshments and fun activities for adults and children,”

The event, is going to be a combination of a grand opening for the library and their annual “Great Things Are Happening Here!” event.

“Often, efforts to improve our community are unrecognized or unacknowledged and we want to change that,” said Belongia. “A sincere, personal thank you feels wonderful. This event is an opportunity for parents and children to meet with, talk to and thank the individuals who are making a difference.  So rather than a formal event with a list of speakers, we’ve planned a casual affair with just people thanking people.”

Belongia said the event will be the perfect finishing touch to all the hard work.

“Of course, the Grand Opening is the capstone to this journey to a new library for Marshfield.  Having our donors, volunteers, staff and the many involved all together for a great party will be wonderful.  After all the hard work, it is right that we celebrate together,” she said.

She is excited for even more community members to see the awesome, new facility.

“You know it still seems like a dream. Sometimes as I walk through the building, I get a little shiver of excitement. Seeing people flow through the doors and using the new spaces as they were planed is an absolute thrill,” she said.

And they sure have been filing through the doors ever since their opening this fall.

“They are coming in droves. In September, the number of new library cards issued last month was up 178%.  Meeting room use was up 17.6%. Reference questions increased 69.% and directional question were up 236.6%. (And that is even with the library being closed 5 days in September.),” Belongia said.

She hopes that even more people will come to the grand opening and check out all the new library has to offer including: the reading area, Young Adult/Teen space, Fireside Room, Felker Foundation Genealogy & Local History Room, the JP Adler Family Room, study rooms, atrium, computers and laptops.

“This Grand Opening culminates the hopes, dreams, hard work and determination of volunteers, board members, common council representatives, business people, families, students, children, and families.  It is time to celebrate, look back on all that was accomplished and say ‘Thank You!’” she said.

She is hoping they see a library full of standing-room-only smiling faces excited to see the new library.

And once the grand opening is completed, they resume the regular schedule of weekly programs, story-times, technology trainings, book club, writers, group, genealogy meetings, adult board game gatherings, family programs and children’s programs.
