Chestnut Center for the Arts welcomes summer with music and arts camps for children. Creativity and inner talent shine through as kids continue to learn in fun and exciting sessions.

“We provide a safe and fun atmosphere for kids to experience art in all forms,” said Adam Smrcka, Executive Director. “We believe in building character, values and self expression through the arts and these programs were designed for families to enjoy at an affordable cost.”

The summer music camp runs from July 9th – July 13th. Guitar, violin or piano will be emphasized in a Celtic-themed class. Participants should bring their own guitar or violin. Cost is $165 per person or $135 each for families of 2 or more. Space is limited!

The art camp makes another appearance this year with the first session running from July 16th – July 20th. Session two is from July 23rd – 27th. Classes run from 1:00 pm – 4:30 daily. Drawing and painting in 2D, clay in 3D along with singing, dancing and drumming through music and rhythm will be explored. Cost is $165 per person or $135 per child for families of 2 or more.

“Going Nutz for the Arts: Summer Arts Camp was created for families with children ages 5-11. This year we’ve added a music camp designed for children (age 10+ and adults) for participants to work with local Celtic band, MPK,” said Smrcka.

Such camps are an important part in kid’s education. “Arts and music lay the foundation for creative thinking in our children,” he said. “Our goal was to accentuate the curriculum in the elementary schools by offering programming that focuses on an experiential learning environment.”

“The campers will be working in 2D, 3D, rhythm & dance and collaborative projects. Children are guided to create individual artistic pieces and also work collaboratively on larger installation pieces.”

Smrcka added that the local instructors consist of elementary art teachers, retired art educators and artists in the Marshfield area community. Many have been involved with these summer camps for years.
