Tiger Scavenger Hunt Holds Successful First Year

The Tiger Scavenger Hunt held a successful first event Feb. 23, attracting 22 teams to visit over 20 businesses to perform creative tasks and snap their best photo for entry.

Proceeds raised a total of $5,742.34 after expenses toward the softball and baseball programs at the Marshfield High School, which will help the teams pad their budgets toward uniforms, equipment, training opportunities, and travel.

The top teams were Huey Lewis and The News (4,095 votes), Trouble Trio Plus 1 (2,112), and Fab 5 (1,452) who were selected in an online polling the following week of the best photos. Cash prizes were $250, $150, and $100 for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.

Teams scattered throughout Marshfield in this relaxed competition to perform various tasks provided by the local businesses. Solutionz* created a snow wall for participants to paint on, The Sports Den offered virtual biking and tire changing, Wheelers Chevrolet let teams inside one of its trucks with props for a fun video opportunity, and Schalow’s Nursery created its own mini scavenger hunt inside its retail store.

“The kids had a great time and they had a chance to see business they maybe don’t to go into that often,” said Marsha Bushman, organizer. “Every team said ‘I had way more fun than I ever anticipated I would.’ They really enjoyed it.”

The volunteers, in-kind donations, and nearly 30 business sponsors were key to the success of the scavenger hunt and its ability to keep its costs low so funds could stretch as far as possible. TriMedia* donated online registration and polling for the event.

Next year, event planners hope to attract even more teams now that they know what to expect and create a route that teams can follow to be able to visit every business. Though most of the teams this year were teenaged, all ages can join in.

“I feel like it’s an event that anybody could do,” Bushman said. Next year, having more businesses could bring more fun opportunities to families with small children. Safety was always number one in the minds of the planning committee and many parents acted as chauffeur for their kids – and had lots of fun themselves.
