Dairy Milk Alternatives Take Off at Festival Foods

For those with a dairy allergy or who are simply lactose intolerant on some level, there are plenty of options on the market that can replace milk in your cereal and even your ice cream.

Festival Foods offers milk alternatives such as soy, almond, cashew, rice, flax, pea, and coconut in the natural/organic section, each offering their own unique taste. These come in varieties such as unsweetened, chocolate, vanilla, and mixed blend.

The most popular item by far is unsweetened almond milk, a good option for reducing sugar intake, said Robb Pretasky, Director of Specialty/Natural Foods.

The latest trend is oat milk, which was so popular when it was first offered, the manufacturer couldn’t keep up with demand. Now more brands have gotten in on the craze and guests can find it on the shelves at Festival Foods as Silk “Oat Yeah” or Planet Oat Oatmilk.

“It’s just really smooth drinking out of the glass. It’s really good over any kind of cereal. You can use it for baking as a trade-off with milk,” he said. “It’s a really creamy item and it has a good texture.”

Other uses for oat milk include as a creamer in coffee, or in smoothies.

Though plant-based products have certainly taken off, guests can still enjoy the dairy taste with lactose-free milk. Find this in the dairy section, also available in single bottles. Look for brands like Lactaid or Fairlife.

Dairy alternatives aren’t limited to milk – find yogurts, creamers, and ice creams, too. With many delicious options, guests can continue to enjoy their favorite things without a worry.
