Music is one part of life that often brings people together.

That premise is the foundation of the upcoming local event The FREEDOM PROJECT which is taking place this Saturday, August 13th.

This is the second year for the The FREEDOM PROJECT performances said Director Courtney Posteluk.

“In the spring of 2015, The FREEDOM PROJECT was birthed out of a desire shared by many musicians in our area, to use our music and our faith to make a positive impact on our community.  We felt it was time to take the worship that inspires us each week in our churches, outside the church walls.  We understand many people in our city will never enter church doors, so events like The FREEDOM PROJECT give us the opportunity to let them know just how much God loves them, and experience worship in a way they may never have before,” she said.

The FREEDOM PROJECT, which is an outdoor, musical worship experience, will be hosted at 7 p.m. at Columbia Park, 209 W. Arnold Street.

Posteluk hopes that many community members come out to enjoy the musical, family-friendly event.

“It’s the perfect way to soak in the summer weather, enjoy great music and hang with family and friends,” she said.

Everything from the planning, to the behind-the-scenes prep, to the musicians and singers, is a collaboration of multiple churches.  In addition, the summer worship nights are attended by such diverse crowds of people from so many different churches, it’s evident we’re all working toward the same goal – to make a difference in the lives of people in our community,” said Posteluk

According to Posteluk, one of the purposes of the organization is to bring people together through faith and music but also to spread the word about recovery programs in our area. She hopes that each event will serve as a place to connect those struggling with drug or alcohol addiction with recovery programs that can help.

“We all have pasts full of regret, struggles and addictions day to day, and questions about the future. With broken hearts, we struggle to cope with the growing concerns in our homes, jobs, and cities.  The FREEDOM PROJECT is an initiative to spread the message, through music, that in the midst of it all, God’s love brings life, His truth brings freedom, and His power brings hope.  As music can transcend any boundary, God’s presence can heal any heart,” she said.
The FREEDOM PROJECT events are held throughout the summer. .
