Melody Gardens Skateland Gets Remodeled

Melody Gardens Showcases Renovations

A popular spot with kids for birthdays parties and weekend fun, Melody Gardens Skateland is undergoing a few renovations.

The original wood paneling dating to the early seventies were stripped and the walls painted and decorated to give it a more modern look. New menu boards were also put in.

“The rink is something my husband and I have been wanting to do,” said owner Margie Schmidt.

Last year, the Melody Gardens restaurant saw its own renovations when the old flooring was replaced with tile and new carpet. “We’re doing one project at a time, just to give it a new fresh look and an update,” she said. Schmidt has plans to have a mural painted in the Skateland and add a few more decorations.

Open skating hours are Thursday 6:30-9:00 p.m., Saturday 1:30-4:30 p.m. and 7:30-10:30 p.m., and Sunday 1:30-4:30 p.m. During Spring Break, the rink is open March 27 and April 2 from 1-3:03 p.m. Admission is $2.50 and skate rental fifty cents.

1/09/17 – Marshfield’s iconic Melody Gardens has a new look.  Last summer saw improvements to the bathrooms and recent renovations have included updates to the flooring.  Tile was laid in the kitchen, side dining area, and bathrooms, replacing what had been original flooring dating back 37 years.  The main dining room also has new carpeting, which has completed the project for now.

Melody Gardens has evolved as a family-owned business.  Over the years, ownership has changed but it has always stayed in the family.  Margie and Dennis Schmidt have owned the business for the past four years.  In regards to future renovations, Margie says she always has ideas.

The scheduling of the recent project can be attributed to the time of year.

“January is a little slower, with the cold weather,” says Schmidt.  “We had a good crew with family helping us out with the flooring.”

Their dedicated staff also pitched in to help with the clean-up and getting everything ready to open again.

The public has been receptive of the change and Schmidt says their customers have been complimentary and enjoy the new look.  Despite the change in appearance, Melody Gardens homestyle cooking hasn’t changed a bit.

When hungry, patrons can partake of juicy burgers, breakfast items that are served all day, or classic favorites such as hot beef with mashed potatoes.  The menu will satisfy even the pickiest of eaters.

And don’t forget to make room for dessert!  Whether picking from one of the many homemade ice creams or choosing a sundae, flurry, shake or delicious piece of pie, any sweet tooth will be satisfied.  At affordable prices, the whole family can enjoy a full meal.

In response to keeping prices low, Schmidt says, “It was how I was brought up.  I come from a family of 16 and give all the credit to my parents and how I was raised.”  With an atmosphere of family friendliness, repeat customers are often seen.

Besides the popular dining area, kids of all ages can put their energy to good use in Skateland.  If skating is not a priority, there are also arcade games, pool and air hockey tables.  Private parties can also be scheduled for this area as celebrating birthdays and other special occasions at the skating rink are quite popular.

While the look has changed, the accommodating atmosphere has not.  Melody Gardens remains as the go-to place for people of all ages.
