Dairyfest’s Picnic in the Park Features Local Talents

Dance Group and Civic Band Part of Dairyfest Festivities

Picnic in the Park makes another appearance at Dairyfest on Friday, June 1st from 5:00 – 8:30 pm at Columbia Park. Hands on activities will keep youngsters entertained and for those wishing to sit back and watch, several performances will be offered throughout the evening. Food booths will be on site, offering a variety of treats to enjoy.

Ongoing evening events include a Petting Zoo by Marshfield FFA, Education displays, Face Painting by Festive Faces, Richfield 4-H children’s games, McMillan Fire Department demonstrations, and Inflatables from Hillers.

At 5:30 pm, Main Street Conservatory of Dance will perform with the YMCA Kid’s Dash occurring at 5:45 pm. No registration is required for the dash and it is free for kids ages 2-10. Medals will be handed out at the finish line, presented by Marshfield Clinic Health System. At 6:00 pm, Simplicity Credit Union sponsors a Penny/Candy hunt.

Coordinator of Picnic in the Park and Program Director of Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MACCI), Debbie Bauer, is proud of what the Marshfield community has to offer. “This event is a great opportunity to showcase various non-profit organizations and share the great things they do in our community. A couple of long-time organizations are Altrusa, who has been a long time staple of Picnic in the Park, and they continue to sell their ice cream cones.

Columbus Catholic schools have been a strong partner here as well, selling burgers and brats. Marshfield FFA and Alumni is another organization that has provided the petting zoo here, a great opportunity to introduce kids to farm animals. Lastly, the Richfield 4-H provides activities and games games that the kids can participate in for a prize. Main Street Conservatory of Dance has been with us for many, many years – entertaining the crowd and attracts parents, grandparents and others to watch. We are so very fortunate to have so much talent in our community.”

Dan Kirk takes over at 6:30 pm for a juggling act to amuse all ages. Known as “The Juggler with the Yellow Shoes”, Kirk has been juggling since 1983 with over 2,555 performances. “I saw him performing at a state fair conference several years ago and thought he would be a perfect fit for Picnic in the Park,” said Bauer. “He has been with us in previous years and was very well received. He is so unique in his performance as he wear massive sized yellow shoes.”

Marshfield’s very own Civic Band closes the night with their performance at 7:30 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs as the band begins their summer concert season.

Bauer concluded, “Dairyfest is a community tradition and it is extremely important to utilize our local talent that sometimes goes unnoticed. Giving back and supporting our local economy is what MACCI is all about and coordinating Dairyfest is a way to support our agricultural industries and heritage in this area. I hope everyone will make Dairyfest a part of their weekend!”
