Trick-Or-Treating at the Zoo October 8

Trick-or-Treating in Wisconsin is usually a dark, cold, bundled up situation for kids and parents alike.

One opportunity in early October to try out the costumes during the day, is the upcoming Trick-or-Treating in the Zoo on Saturday Oct 8.

“The event is a great opportunity to Trick-or-Treat in a safe environment, meet people, see different costumes, test out your costume for the year; all while receiving candy and getting your Zoo Passport stamped,” said Wildwood Zoological Society Treasurer Brandi Reed.

This will be the eighth year the Wildwood Zoological Society has hosted the event which raises funds for the group’s general fund. The money is currently being saved to expand the Cougar Exhibit, Reed said.

This year will be especially exciting for the young princesses and superheroes because it is the first year that the new Bear Exhibit will be open during the event.

Reed said they are expecting a lot of interest due to the new exhibit and have accommodated for the extra people.

“Last year, Trick or Treating was a huge hit even while the Bear Exhibit was under construction. This year, with the Bear Exhibit complete, we will have all three entrance gates open to provide a more efficient flow of visitors,” she said.

The event, which only costs $5 per family, is very inexpensive for the whole family, even big families to attend.

Reed said that they are still in need of more volunteers to pull off the event this year.

tot_2“Volunteers are important in our community! Without volunteers, the Zoological Society wouldn’t exist, animal exhibits wouldn’t be updated or improved, and our animals in our zoo; which can’t survive in the wild due to either being injured or born into captivity, wouldn’t have a good home to live in, “ she said.

To volunteer, simply email [email protected] and be ready to come dressed in your favorite costume.

Reed hopes many families stop out and enjoy the event.

“The Wildwood Zoological Society enjoys the months of planning for this event all to see the families enjoying a safe Trick-or-Treating environment while supporting their Zoo,” she said.
