Marshfield Welcomes New Sushi Bar and Restaurant “Nagoya”

New Owners Bring Brand-New Restaurant to Community

One of Marshfield’s newest places to eat fills a much-needed void in the community. Located at 1637 N Central Ave (down from Festival Foods), Nagoya Japanese Sushi & Steak House offers a wide array of authentic Japanese and Chinese Food, including Hibachi steak, vegetable tempura, orange chicken, sesame shrimp and chicken, and of course, sushi.

The space has formerly housed other Asian cuisine restaurants, but is now under completely new ownership and staff, and has an entirely fresh menu. Former businesses have struggled at this location, but Nagoya represents a complete overhaul of the plagued space.

The owners, husband and wife Louis Gao and Summer Liu, have extensive experience in the restaurant industry, and are excited about their first time owning their own establishment.

After moving from China six years ago, they have worked in restaurants throughout Wisconsin, most recently Tokyo Steakhouse in Stevens Point. With a new daughter, they decided to venture out on their own to allow more flexible scheduling to spend time with her.

“We heard about the location,” said Liu. “We just wanted to try and see what we can do in business and settle down here.”

As the only sushi bar in Marshfield, Liu is excited to offer something new and fresh to the community. So far, reception has been positive, but Liu hopes more people realize that the restaurant is open and ready to serve.

“Many people working in the hospital are coming here. People that just moved here, they come here and try our food and say it’s good,” said Liu, adding that fans of Matsu Ya in Stevens Point have compared Nagoya’s sushi to the famous Central Wisconsin hotspot.

“People who live here, they are are so happy to have a sushi restaurant here,” she said. “Our sushi is the best. We make it fresh.”

Liu reminds those that may be hesitant to try sushi that sushi is not only raw fish. Nagoya offers a variety of cooked rolls and other cooked dishes such as steak and chicken.

Whatever they are making, all dishes are made fresh using the finest sushi-grade ingredients.

“We like cooking. We like to make people happy with food,” said Liu.
