Marshfield Area Community Foundation: Hamus Nature Preserve

Hamus Nature Preserve was created out of Pat and Floyd Hamus’s love for our community. Pat and Floyd wanted to find some way to give back to the community that had supported their business and that they had raised their children in during their own lifetime, to find a charity or cause that everyone would benefit from, from the smallest child to the oldest person.

Pat and Floyd always had a love for parks. That’s why Mr. Hamus took on the role of fundraiser and donor for Wildwood and Hamus parks.

Mr. Hamus is an exceptional fundraiser. He worked with The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Marshfield Utility Company, and Marshfield Park and Recreation Department to make Hamus Nature Preserve a reality. He and Pat donated much of the cost of the preserve, and he was able to fundraise for the remaining costs.

Hamus Recreation Area has many trails, ponds, flowers, a shelter, bathrooms, and even a fishing area. Grandparents are often spotted fishing with their grandchildren on the handicapped accessible fishing pier. He makes sure the pond is stocked with fish. People may rent the shelter for a modest fee. Pat and Floyd wanted to keep this affordable for all.

It has been used for high school graduation parties, anniversaries, and even weddings. Pat and Floyd even help maintain the park– they want to be sure it is well taken care of for the generations to come. The Nature Reserve Area is a true asset to our community.

Hamus Nature Preserve & Recreation Area is another addition to MACF’s long list of contributions to the community, which include Wildwood Station, Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library, Hackman Field, Weber Park, Hardacre Park, Braem Park Disk Golf, the Skate Park, Tiny Tiger Intergenerational Center, the ACE Academy, Griese Park, and many, many more.

A tax exempt, non-profit organization, MACF uses public support to better connect those with a cause in mind to its completion while taking care of administrative tasks, and continues to establish permanent, named funds for public benefit.
