Giggles and plastic eggs went together perfectly this weekend in Marshfield as hundreds of children streamed into Wildwood Park to participate in the Eggsploration Community Easter Egg Hunt hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Marshfield.
Local mom Nicole Forst was glad she attended with her children 6-year-old Trevor and four-year old Maci. “The kids enjoyed it and I enjoyed seeing so many people I knew, “ she said.
Members of the Kiwanis Club were glad that so many families and children appreciated the event that they hosted.
“It was wonderful to see so many families. We had over 500 kids and everyone seemed to have a good time. It was great hearing the laughter and excitement as the kids were collecting their eggs,” said Mark Vieth, President of Wenzel’s Farms and chair of the event.
As is often the case with an egg hunt in Wisconsin, the children had to master the art of picking up the colorful, plastic eggs with gloves or mittens protecting their hands from the chilly weather.
Cool weather notwithstanding, the little hunters enjoyed collecting the eggs and dropping them in their buckets with a satisfying plop, and of course collecting the prize bag at the end. Community events like this require a fair amount of organization and volunteer work. That work didn’t go unnoticed.
“Thank you volunteers! You made this a nice event for everyone,” Forst said.
Vieth was also proud of his fellow volunteers, “I am thankful for our enthusiastic volunteers that handled registration, handed out candy bags and “hid” the eggs for the kids,” he said.
Kiwanis is one of the local organizations that hosts community events for families in Marshfield. Kiwanis International is a global service organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. The Marshfield club is an organization comprised of about 30 men and women from a variety of backgrounds, professions, and walks of life, all working toward the same goals – to benefit the children in the Marshfield area. They serve Marshfield by staying educated about the issues facing the community, hosting family-friendly events, partnering with other charitable organizations, and simply giving of our time and skills to those in need.
They’re perhaps best known for their largest event of the year, the Kiwanis Enormous Equipment Playground (or K.E.E.P.) which is held the first Saturday in October every year. For more information on Marshfield’s Kiwanis Club click here.
