Explore Marshfield – CWSF – Fair Buildings

Perhaps the most famous structure on the Central Wisconsin Fairgrounds is the World’s Largest Round Barn. The Felhofer brothers began construction on Thanksgiving Day 1915, and continued working on the building until 1917. Designed as a show and sales barn, the facility was the first of its kind in the area. Today, it remains a special destination for residents of and visitors to Marshfield, and especially so during the Central Wisconsin State Fair.

The Round Barn is not alone, however, as it joins more than a dozen other buildings on the grounds. They are:

  • Jer Lang Show Palace (used as a show ring during the Fair)
  • Sheep and Swine Barn (used for sheep and pigs)
  • Pat’s Barn (exotic animal barn during Jr. Fair and a Dairy Barn during Open Class)
  • Marv David Administrative Building (Fair office and is in use 52 weeks a year.  It is named after Marv Davis who was a former General Manager.)
  • Round Barn (Dairy barn during the Fair)
  • Milk House (milking parlor during the Fair)
  • Knoll (Beef) Barn (beef barn during the Fair)
  • Hockey Building (entertainment area for the Fair, hosting several events such as Boxing, Archery, Classic Car Exhibit and more)
  • Small Animal Barn (Blue Barn) (for small animals)
  • Red Barn (formerly “green barn”, another dairy barn)
  • Jr. Fair Expo (specifically centered around Jr. Fair.)
  • John C. Lang 4-H Building (designed to promote 4-H.  It also has the train exhibit, which has become a staple of the Fair for the last several years.)
  • Expo Building (main expo building during the Fair. This building is designed to accommodate commercial vendors.)
  • Grandstand (area in which concerts take place during the Fair)
  • Curling Club (Expo II building during the Fair.  This building is used as an overflow for our commercial vendors.)
  • Horse Barn 1
  • Horse Barn 2
  • Fuzzy Fellenz Hospitality Building (accommodate grandstand entertainment.)

“Most of the building were funded through donations, but some were built solely by the Fair Association,” said Adam Fischer, Executive Director, adding that most of the buildings and barns are able to be rented throughout the year.

“The only buildings/barns that are not for rent would be Fuzzy Fellenz Building, Curling Club, John C. Lang 4-H, Red Barn, Small Animal Barn and the Marv Davis Building,” he said.
