Marshfield Kid-Friendly Restaurants

Sometimes it is nice to just go out to eat.

Nice people bring you tasty beverages and piping hot food of your choosing. Everyone can order what they want. Someone else cleans up the mess and there are no dishes at home.

Those are a lot of wins in my book! But any parent knows that the flip side of dinner out is the stress of taking the kids along.

One of my personal tips is to always scope out a place first before you bring your kids along, to see how “kid-friendly” the environment is.

But, honestly who has the time for all that?

That’s why we have helped you out and Explored a few local places first so you can feel confident and know what to expect for you and your kids.

I scoped out three restaurants that I have personally found to be pretty kid-friendly both in atmosphere and kid food options. We also included links to each restaurant’s kids’ menu.
Applebee’s, 2114 N. Central Ave.

Pros
1.    They have a variety of options on the menu for type of food, not just a couple of choices. My kids also like that they can choose the main dish, the side dish (or two depending if you get the hungrier option) and the drink.

2.    They give crayons and activity page. This is a definite plus! The kids get a couple of crayons to color. (Is it sad that I say a little prayer that they get two colors they like so we don’t have melt downs??) They also have little computer screens to occupy kids. However, I don’t allow screens at the table so that is a no go in our family. But, for some it might be a helpful distraction.

3.    They are very willing to put kids food in early so there is less waiting. This seems very important to my children who are always so hungry it seems like they have never been fed before.

Cons
1.    The only real con I see is that the plates they serve the kids food on are really big and clunky and kind of an odd choice for kid food. They also use huge spoons for kids. I would love if they did their stuff more in baskets and had more kid-friendly silverware.

Lumberyard Bar & Grill, 1651 N. Central Ave.

Pros
1.    Lumberyard also has great food options for kids…just enough to be a nice amount of choices and not too many to be overwhelming for the kiddos.

2.    Crayons and activity sheets. The evening always goes better when my kids have crayons and pages to color. And somehow, ones from the restaurant will always be way cooler than the ones mom brings along.

3.    If you have a kid with allergen restrictions, Lumberyard would be a good choice because they offer gluten-free options which is great.
Cons
1.    The only real con here was that the couple times we have been the kid’s food has been a little slow so that is a bit of a challenge. But it is hard to tell if that would be a consistent issue or was just not our lucky day(s)!

Blue Heron BrewPub, 108 W. 9th Street
Pros
1.    The kids really liked the food here. They are, by no means, food critics but they seemed to think that the offerings here were a cut above the rest.

2.    They thought the atmosphere was really interesting. They liked that they could see the beer making equipment through the window. All of the signs on the walls and talking about the history involved really kept my kids occupied and engaged which was really fun to see.
Cons
1.    The main con here was that we were not offered crayons or activity pages. I know it seems like a little thing but to my 3 & 5 year olds that made a world of difference.

Hopefully this overview helps you feel more confident taking your littles to one of these fine Marshfield establishments. After we had attended all of the places, I asked for a vote and it was decided that the Lumberyard was the best since they gave the most crayons (four, gasp).  So if you go on the crayon logic, check them out! I would take my kids back to any of these eateries and be confident it is a place that both the adults and the kids feel comfortable.
