“The Art of Glass” Opens January 8

New Visions Gallery opens 2017 with The Art of Glass, an exhibit that details the beauty and versatility of glass.  The opening reception is on Sunday, January 8th from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm in which many of the 11 featured artists will attend. Complimentary refreshments will be served and the event is open and free to the public.

Many of the artists are local to Central Wisconsin.  They include:  Nancy Wynia, Marilyn Browell Hoglund, Keven Brunett, Kristin Thielking, Lisa Beth Robinson, Laura Rendlen, Eva Hathaway, Carol Widra, Julie Sittler, Debi McCullough, and Kathleen Rulka. Another artist, Laura Rendlen, comes from Kansas City, MO and her mosaic glass work has received national appreciation.

Showcasing glass is a rare treat for the New Visions Gallery.  While they have some donated pieces, a full exhibit will display the many talents that glass artists possess.

The full creativity of the artists will be apparent to all who visit.  “I am continually amazed by this media which most people think of as utilitarian or very fragile,” states Bobbie Erwin, Executive Director at New Visions Gallery. “While it can be both of those things, glass is one of the most versatile media, lending itself well to many different applications and techniques. The finished product is truly a merger of art and science.”

Educational opportunities will also be provided for visitors.

“Our hope is that visitors will learn about the different glass working techniques – there are so many ways to work with this fascinating media that many people may not have seen up close,” says Erwin. “We will have some larger scale as well as smaller scale pieces that will showcase the versatility of glass as well as techniques including fusing, slumping, blowing and lamp work.”

The Art of Glass can be viewed Monday – Friday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM at New Visions Gallery, located in the main lobby of Marshfield Clinic, 1000 North Oak Avenue, Marshfield.  The exhibit runs from January 9th – February 3rd, 2017.
