Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is a Christian non-profit organization that has a mission to feed hungry children around the world. Formed in 1987, FMSC and thousands of volunteers have put together nutritious meals for children in need.

Marshfield has been a proud supporter of FMSC since 2010. This year, the culmination of the event will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church on April 12 – 14, 2018.

Helpers over the age of 5 will be accepted with proper adult supervision. Families, school groups and those with disabilities are welcome to join in. All help is welcome with duties to fit physical capabilities. This is an opportunity to see how hunger affects the world, pray for those that are in need, and volunteer time for a worthy cause.

Shannon Nienast is an organizer of the Marshfield chapter of FMSC and welcomes all to come and help, regardless of religious affiliation. “There are 21 churches in the local area that help make the event happen.  You don’t have to belong to those churches.   Anyone who wants to make a difference by helping feed starving children can volunteer to pack and to donate to help pay for the food,” said Nienast.

While the dates in April will show the success of the event, the weeks leading up to it is when the hard work is done. 90% of financial donations will be used to purchase food such as rice, soy, vegetables and vitamins. FMSC believes that nutrition is the key to for children to live healthy and thriving lives.

For those that have time to give, shifts will be scheduled in two hour blocks. Volunteers will be trained on how to prepare meals and package them correctly.

Nienast said, “Helpers can expect to be trained to pack food in small groups. Ingredients are mixed and bags are packed into boxes for shipment.”

Food distribution will occur in Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Europe, Middle East, South America, North and Central America.
