Pickle Pond Ice Skating Opens for the Season

Rink Set to Open in Time for Winter Break

Open from December to February, Pickle Pond remains the go-to spot for outdoor ice skating each winter.

With a warming house, powerful lights and music, the Parks & Recreation department keeps the rink a free and viable spot for community ice skating. With the dipping temperatures, the department is aiming to have the facility open on Friday, December 22 this year.

“We usually try to have it open on Friday before Christmas break,” said Kelly Cassidy, Parks & Recreation supervisor.

There will be special warming house hours for the holidays and winter break, but the rink can be used outside of these hours as long as the ice is in good condition. Pickle Pond closes -20 degrees or colder windchill, when the ice is melting, or two inches or more of snow falls on weekends or after 1 p.m. on weekdays.

Special Warming House/Supervised Hours:
December 24 & 31: 1 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
December 26 – 30: 1:00 – 9:00 p.m. (Warming House Closed Christmas Day)
January 1: 1:00 – 8:00 p.m
