Half Taxi, Half Police Car Spotted in Marshfield

A car spotted in Marshfield this week had drivers looking twice.

The unusual vehicle’s front half resembles a police car, the other half a classic yellow taxi cab. The car was being driven by Belco Vehicle Solutions, which services the squad cars at Marshfield Police Department, but it’s owned by the company and not by any particular police agency.

Its unusual appearance reminds drivers of the sobering financial cost of drunk driving and encourages them to “choose your ride.” While an escort in a police vehicle for an OWI could top $2,000, the cost of a safe taxi ride home is just $20.

Marshfield Police Department switched out three of its vehicles for a Dodge Charger and two F-150s. Two are complete and the third is expected back in a few weeks, said Assistant Chief Pat Zeps.

In addition to wrapping vehicles, Belco, which was founded by two former Columbia County police officers, installs all of the vehicle’s electrical equipment including radios, sirens, and lights.
