It was a great day!

The sun on my face, the great company of my sister-in-law, & a wine glass in my hand, what more could I ask for?

Last Saturday, my sister-in-law Heather and I attended the Downtown Wine Walk and it was an awesome day.  There were 22 downtown businesses participating.

Arm in arm (cause that’s how we roll) we leisurely wandered through downtown sipping wine and eating the tasty cheeses that they were paired with.

I learned a couple important things:

  1. I need to do more stuff without my kids! Like most moms, I spend the majority of my time with my kids, or doing things for my kids. I spend very little of my time on “me” and doing something I simply want to enjoy.  This afternoon was just that, enjoying the beautiful day with my beautiful sister. We talked about a lot of fun, silly things. It was just so relaxing. I kind of forget how little of my mom life is relaxing (or quiet)!
  1. There are a lot of fun businesses downtown that I kind of forget about when I am planning my life and shopping choices. One of the treasures I enjoyed on Saturday is Thimbleberry Books, a cute used bookstore. I love that they have a resident cat wandering around. (I don’t think the kitty sampled any wine though.)

I wasn’t alone in my discovery (or rediscovery) of downtown businesses. One wine walk participant, Gail Butler, said,  “There’s places in downtown Marshfield that we never knew existed!”

  1. My favorite wine pairing was at 2 ½ Cups and was Cupcake Moscato Di Asti (perfect choice for a cupcake shop) and Havarti cheese. Also I want to say that all of the cheeses, which were provided by Nasonville Dairy, were awesome! I am a typical Wisconsin girl, so I know cheese, and these were all really tasty.

I ended the day with another really fun event. Elizabeth Olson Photography was running a special sitting at My Oh My Boutique for the Wine Walk where little girls could take pictures in their mother’s wedding dresses. I took my 2-year-old Vivi and she had such a wonderful time being a little model. I was surprised to find how emotional I got seeing her in my wedding dress and thinking of her someday being all grown up on her own special day.

Even the photographer had a good time!

“I had sweet, sweet time meeting all the girls and their mommies! Everyone was so excited and bubbly, including me! I was so happy there was such a great turn out,” Olson said.

All in all, the Downtown Wine Walk, which was a Leadership Marshfield project done in partnership with Main Street Marshfield to benefit United Way, was a perfect way for me to spend the day…a little wine, a little shopping and lots of relaxing. I hope they do it again next year!
