Exploring the UW Arboretum

The UW-Marshfield/Wood County Arboretum is a natural walking spot. Wrapping around the back of the UW campus in town, the 140-acre natural forest is one of the few areas that escaped development or agriculture.

The Arboretum stretches from 5th street between the UW and Mid-State. There is no cost to visit the Arboretum. Visitors can enter from the parking lot on 5th Street, from the parking lot on 7th Street, from the parking lot by the tennis court on 8th Street, and from the Lincoln Avenue walking trail.

Wildlife is most active at dawn and dusk, but during the day visitors can spot interesting plants marked by signs along the route. Find hardwoods such as aspen, maple, oak, and ash with other vegetation including ferns and wildflowers.

Enjoy marked gravel paths, whether on 1.5, .8, or .3 mile routes. Dogs must be on a leash, and no bicycles are allowed.
