Explore Tip: Entertaining Guests This Holiday Season

Where to Take Holiday Guests in Marshfield

You are all ready for all your holiday guests. The extra sheets are on the guest bed and Aunt Sally’s favorite kind of soda is all stocked in the fridge. But what do you do to entertain them while they are here? You help them Explore Marshfield of course!

Especially during the holidays, there are so many unique aspects of our little hamlet to show your out-of-town guests.

One of the first places that comes to mind is going down to Wildwood Park, 608 W. 17th Street, to experience the beautiful Rotary Winter Wonderland lights. Not only is it a wonderful light display and a chance for young ones to see Santa, all the donations of food and money goes to a wonderful cause of stocking our local food banks for those in need.

Another very festive option is to stop down to the Governor Upham House (aka Upham Mansion), 212 W. 3rd Street, which is a beautiful, historic mansion from the 1800s that is decorated from top to bottom in Christmas cheer. This year, the theme they chose is “Santa’s on His Way” featuring Santa Claus in all different forms and traditions. Throughout the house, there are many trees that are decorated with various themes featuring historic aspects of both the season and of Marshfield itself.

For your artistic guests, you might check out New Visions Gallery, 1000 N. Oak Ave. The gallery is currently featuring their “Starting Out” exhibit, which exclusively showcases the artwork of university students. Who knows, you might witness the birth of the next big artist and can say you saw their work at its beginning!

Perhaps a brisk walk down our idyllic main street would be the ticket. When the snow has just fallen and all the stores are all decorated, it kind of feels like you are in your own version of “Gilmore Girls.”

Main Street Marshfield Executive Director Angie Eloranta agrees that downtown is fun to experience this time of year.

“Downtown Marshfield is beautifully lit up during the holidays! A lot of the small businesses have lit up their storefronts with unique Christmas displays and lot of twinkling lights. Some of these displays truly are a work of art,” she said.

And while our downtown is quaint, it still has a lot to offer.

“We have a lot of great retail shops that range from antiques to clothing to home decor. We also have a lot of great family restaurants and specialty shops for coffee and baked goods. Another must stop place is the newly renovated Hardacre Park which is all decked out for the Holiday season,” Eloranta said.

If your guests are from bigger cities, they might appreciate the originality of some of our downtown businesses.

“All the retail and restaurants downtown are ‘must stop’ places because they are all unique to our downtown. Some of these stores and diners have been a part of our downtown for 30 plus years,” she said.

This is just a small sampling of all the great places you could show your holiday guests this season. Let us know if there are any other favorites you always like to show your visitors!
