Wildwood Zoo Grows by TWO!

Today, Wildwood Zoo announced a very special addition to their herd. Joining Rocky (the male bighorn sheep) is a new female bighorn sheep and her lamb.

“They’ll be joining him and hopefully be forming a happy little family,” said Zookeeper Steve Burns.

The lamb was born about 10 days ago, while his 4 year-old mother was still in a 2-month quarantine (standard procedure for new arrivals). In the wild, mothers will keep lambs away from the herd for at least 7 days.

“We gave the lamb and mother that amount of time to get to know each other, for the lamb to gain some strength,” explained Burns.

Weighing just 8-10 lbs, newborn lambs are born with horn buds and have a soft, woolly, light-colored coat. They quickly learn how to run and jump over the rocky terrain they call home.
