2/07/19 – If you have cabin fever, a stroll through several dozen countries might do the trick.
The Marshfield Cultural Fair returns to the UW Saturday, February 23 from 10-4 p.m. featuring performances, cultural foods, vendors, workshops and crafts. The free, family-friendly event is designed to bring awareness to the cultural diversity within the community and promote international ties.
Catch performances by the Pommerscher Verein Central Wisconsin Dancers (German Dance Troupe), Ko Thi-African and Caribbean Dance, and the Shotgun Gerdy Gang (Bluegrass Band). Main Street Conservatory of Dance, Ms Taku, and Ecuadorian music are also hitting the stage in the Laird Theater.
Demonstrations and performances in the gym include a martial arts, the Central WI country dancers, East Indian Dance Troupe, Bollywood Dance, and TRISIS.
One of the best parts about the event is the opportunity to try foods from around the world. Featured food vendors are Jamaican Kitchen, Taqueria el Sol, Mojo’s, Nagoya Japanese Restaurant, The Rivers, China Chef, The Wood Café, and A Slice of Heaven (homemade cheesecakes and cupcakes). Samples are available for 1 ticket for those who want to try a select variety from each station.
Cultural roots are closely tied with history, so learn more about your own roots at the history room and connect with local history groups.
Kids can test out drumming workshops, arts and crafts, and the PUPPETS performance by a local church. Adults will enjoy shopping and learning more about different cultures from 30 vendors.
