Concert Honors Those Who Have Served in Armed Forces
Join in honoring those who have served in the armed forces at UW-Marshfield/Wood County’s Veterans Day concert on Tues. Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m, performed by the 55-member symphonic band.
The concert will include a traditional version of the Star Spangled Banner, music from West Side Story, a musical history of the United States, and Into the Air, a special piece written for the Air Force Band.
“I strongly believe in the freedoms and privileges our country represents to humanity, and I have a deep and abiding appreciation for anyone who has served, knowing that they could be called upon to lay down their lives for the rest of us,” said music director Dr. Richard Brunson. “There is something sacred about that bond, and this is one small way to say thank you to those people.”
To demonstrate that appreciation, service members will be recognized during the performance. “Every year we play a medley that contains all of the service anthems for each military branch,” said Brunson. “When each service anthem is played, the veterans in the audience are invited to stand and be recognized.”
The concert will be held at the Helen Connor Laird Theater. Order tickets for $7 online or by calling the Campus Box Office at call 715-389-6534. The office has limited hours but a detailed message will be attended to. Military members who show military ID or proof of service will receive free admission.
