The holiday weekend conjures up many thoughts….
Of course, there are the solemn reasons for Memorial Day. Checkout a couple of articles here from Explore about local Memorial Day events honoring our Veterans.
But for many of us, a big part of the weekend is the extra day off to enjoy with family and friends. And what better, and more Wisconsin way to celebrate than grilling….brats?
One local company provides a huge variety of brats to choose from!
Hewitt’s Meat processing, with a retail location at 1301 S. Central Ave., has 30 varieties of brats.
“Our 30 flavors of Brats offer something for everyone. Potato Brats and Pork Brats are our old standby flavors. Kraut, Black Bean Salsa, Chorizo, Beer, Tomato Basil, Beef, Andouille, Hot Italian, Mild Italian, Cajun, Ball Park, Sweet Jamaican, Sriracha and Habanero and Mango offer something different. With Wisconsin as the dairy state we of course have brats with cheese. Smoked Jalapeno Cheese, Smoked Cheddar Cheese, Philly Cheese Steak, Jalapeno and Cheddar, Rueben, Mushroom and Swiss, Fajita, and Beer with Nasonville Cheese Curds Brat. Hewitt’s also offers a line of Chicken brats all pre-cooked. Chicken, Chicken Chipotle Ranch, Chicken Spinach Feta, and Chicken Pineapple Teriyaki. Potato Brats and Pork Brats are also available pre-cooked. Hewitt’s Pork brat also comes in a patty along with a Pizza Brat Patty,” said Manager John Franseen.
Some might think 30 flavors is a bit much, but Hewitt’s sees it differently.
“Brats on the grill are a staple of summer in Wisconsin. At Hewitt’s we like to have something for everyone’s taste buds. We are picky about the quality of the meat in our brats and the flavors of them also. By using only high quality cuts of meat and matching them with great seasonings our customers can rest assured our brats will be delicious,” Franseen said.
While Hewitt’s has had their Marshfield retail location since 2012, some residents are still not aware of the variety of meats they have available, or even why they should buy meat separate from the regular grocery store.
Franseen hopes trying Hewitt’s meat will clear up the confusion.
“Our product is produced in small batches and the seasonings we use are from time-tested recipes. All production is overseen by our Master Meat Crafter. Only sixty meat processors worldwide have received the Master Meat Crafter distinction. Many flavors of our brats have no MSG. Our facility adheres to the highest standards regarding food safety. The folks at Hewitt’s would never sell a customer something they would not feed to their own family,” he said.
The company has recently been given awards, proving the exceptional quality of their products.
“The Wisconsin Association of Meat Processors holds their annual convention each April in Middleton, WI. The convention features a product show which is the largest of its kind in North America. Eight of our products received recognition for outstanding quality. Hewitt’s Semi Boneless Ham was chosen to win the prestigious RW Bray Award of Excellence over all 944 products entered,” he said.
While the forecast for the weekend has some rain, it seems like there will be some time to sneak in a little grilling. Stop by Hewitt’s and see what they have to offer, they will surely have a flavor to please your taste buds!
