Debuting a new name, menu and interior, The Rivers Tavern has re-opened for business.
Re-christened “The Rivers,” the restaurant aims to be an upscale destination where diners can go to celebrate anniversaries or hold business meetings.
“We’ve been hearing from our clients that there’s not a nice place to bring people for anniversaries or for interviews,” said staff. “We wanted to give them an atmosphere that is really conducive to having that more private dining experience and also something a little bit more classy.”
The remodel features a clean-cut beige interior, a softly lit fireplace, cushioned blue chairs – and a peek into Marshfield’s early history.
“The name, ‘The Rivers,’ is a throwback to Frank and Lewis Rivers who built the first permanent establishment in the Marshfield area. They kind of started some of the logging industry here as well. We’ll be telling a lot of those stories.”
Fusing early and modern history, local vendors will supply dairy and meat products to the menu to craft a “Taste of Marshfield.”
“I think that this community is very tight-knit and we have a lot of roots that go back a number of years. A lot of those families still exist in this area, so we want to be able to tell the story of the history of Marshfield.”
Staff is new and trained by a retired French chef who has helped open at least 30 restaurants around the world. “We’ve taken a full departure from anything that was done in the past and started something completely fresh and new.”
