Burn off your Thanksgiving meal beforehand by taking part in Festival Foods’ annual Turkey Trot on Nov. 28.
Sign up for the 5-mile run, 2-mile Fun Run, 2-mile walk, or the Dog Jog and receive a free 5-inch pumpkin pie and high quality long-sleeve shirt. In the past 11 years, the event has raised $2,560,000 for local YMCAs and Boys and Girls Clubs in Festival communities.
The coolest part of the event is making the Turkey Trot part of the family tradition whether by participating or volunteering, according to Assistant Store Director Matthew Colby, who also acts as “Pie Tent Captain.”
“It’s a really neat way to start your day off in addition to giving back to your community,” he said.
Any leftover pie, or any that participants would like to donate, is passed along to St. Vincent de Paul food pantry for distribution.
The Dog Jog will include a Grand Marshal from Marshfield Area Pet Shelter. MAPS will also have a booth and any dogs it has available for adoption.
Register online at www.festivalfoodsturkeytrot.com. Adult entry is $30 until Nov. 24 or $15 for children under 18. In-person registration on Race Day is $35 for adults or $15 for kids. Dogs are registered for $5 each and will receive a special bandana so they can trot in style.
Shirts and bibs can be picked up at Marshfield High School on Wednesday, Nov. 27 from 2-6 p.m. and beginning at 6:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving. Fun costumes and accessories are available to purchase at Festival Foods in advance of the event near the registers.
Turkey Trot starts at 8 a.m. with 5-mile runners followed by 2-mile participants, then strollers. Dogs on the 2-mile course will start last at 8:15 a.m. The top five finishers in the 5-mile run will earn a $20 Festival Foods gift card and race results are later posted online.
