Classic car collectors will be polishing up their “babies” for a local car show this weekend.
The Specialty Car Enthusiasts group will be hosting their 35th Annual Specialty Car Enthusiasts Graffiti Weekend, Show and Shine this Sunday June 26 at the Marshfield Mall, 503 E. Ives Street.
The group’s treasurer Deb Rasmussen hopes that they have a good showing this year with 175-200 cars.
Rasmussen said the event is not just about the cars, but is a wholesome family event for the community.
“It’s all about coming together with other car owners, sharing their stories of their current and past and future hopes of car experiences, spending time with their family for the day walking around, talking and maybe even doing a little shopping for the women,” she said.
It’s also a budget-friendly event. Free to attendees and only $10.00 per car registered in the show. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and runs until noon. Rasmussen said 89 trophies will be given out at 3 p.m. (must be present to receive winning trophy) and the show will end around 4 p.m.
While the group is relatively small with a few active members including President Bonnie Carpenter, Rasmussen said it is nice to have an impact on fellow car lovers.
“This is the clubs 35th show that we have put together for the participants as well as the public. Each and every year many of the participants and spectators comment and tell us what a great show we have again put on. Starting with the welcome they received when they get there – to the trophy they may have received – to the conversations that took place – and finally the wonderful wave goodbye they receive from the Specialty Car Enthusiasts members as they leave,” she said.
“We hope everyone stops down to see for themselves all of the different makes and models of cars from years past and to spend time with their family and walk around seeing cars that they may have once owned and reminisce stories about what happened with when they owned the car (good – maybe meet their wife or bad – too many speeding tickets).” Rasmussen said.
“There are lots of laughs while telling the stories,” she said.
This year the show will include two Excalibur cars displayed inside the mall along with other memorabilia, including some from Howie Sturtz and Guy Carpenter.
“We hope everyone stops down and has a spectacular time with their fellow enthusiasts,” she said
