Holiday Light Show Collects Food and Donations for Local Pantries
With its dazzling lights, festive music, and important mission, Rotary Winter Wonderland is again off to a great start this holiday season. Now in its eleventh year, the exhibit has made a significant impact on local pantries.
“Through Sunday, we have collected 22,000 cans of goods and $25,000,” said Al Nystrom, project coordinator. “We are off to an excellent start. Operations have gone smoothly. Our volunteers groups and rangers have done a great job.”
With steady weekend crowds, including more than 2,000 walkers each of the last two Saturdays according to zoo meters, food donations are 15% above average for this time of year, with cash donations also very strong.
With a strong start to the season, Rotary hopes to continue the trend into the holidays.
“There is much work to be done to reach our goal of 55,000 food donations,” said Nystrom. “We humbly ask our guests to consider bringing a bag of groceries on their next visit to Winter Wonderland. Working together, we can feed thousands of our Central Wisconsin neighbors during this holiday season.”
The breathtaking displays of more than 1,000,000 L.E.D. lights will be open every evening from 5:00-9:00pm through New Year’s Eve. Visit the Rotary Winter Wonderland Facebook page or website for more details on many fun activities like Santa visits, horse drawn carriage rides, and more.
