Bereavement Program Seeks to Remember Babies Lost During Pregnancy and at Birth
The loss of a baby is painful, and a local organization aims to help support families and raise awareness.
Together, Learning to Cope (TLC), a bereavement program offered by Ministry St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, will be hosting its 5th Annual Remembrance Walk. The walk remembers all babies lost during pregnancy, at birth or shortly afterwards, and will take place on Saturday, September 30th. Walkers will meet at Wildwood Park, 608 W 17th St, Marshfield, near the large playground at 9:30 a.m, with the walk starting at 10.
Event organizer Julianne Drexler said this walk provides support to those that have lost a child. “We do the Remembrance Walk to honor and remember all babies that have died during this time and to raise awareness that not all pregnancies end with a happy, healthy baby,” she said. “Early pregnancy loss, stillbirth or newborn death shatters these parents and family’s lives. It brings a sense of loss and grieving for their baby and the loss of an entire lifetime and future with that baby.”
Words of hope are offered before the walk is started, and following the walk, parents are welcome to share stories. “By raising awareness, we hope to support parents and their families, and help those around them to understand and offer support to these families during this difficult time.” said Drexler.
She added that TLC is available for parents through support groups, closed Facebook page, and memorial services.
All are welcome to attend this community event which will total two miles around the park. Dress accordingly, rain or shine! Registration forms can be filled out prior to or on the morning of the walk. T-shirts can be pre-ordered but will not be for sale on the day of the event, and are not required to participate.
