Quik Print Celebrates Milestone

Local Business Milestones: Quik Print

Keeping a local business going, even for a few years, is an achievement.

Starting a small businesses and keeping it thriving over 25 years is a huge accomplishment that one local business is celebrating.

Quik Print, 507 N. Central Ave, was founded in 1991 by Jeff Nikolai, said General Manager Jim Esser.

“(It began) with just one press, a paper cutter, a folder and a few other small pieces of equipment things started small but grew quickly,” Esser said.

The business, which currently has five locations, actually began in Medford, Wisconsin. It offers a variety of printing and graphic design services including offset printing, digital printing, screen printing, wide format printing and bindery.

“In 1993, with their customer base growing outside the market area and the need for more production space, they purchased a second building in Spencer. With 2800 square feet of production and office space this new facility gave them plenty of room to grow,” he said.

The third location was added in 1996 in Athens. The fourth location was added in 2011 when Quik Print acquired the Printing Post in Birchwood, WI.

Also In 2011, Quik Print acquired Speedy Print in Marshfield, which was the family business where it all started; where owner Jeff Nikolai learned the trade from his father Floyd.

Not only is it a local business, but a family business. In 2014, Jeff’s son Rob Nikolai joined the team as Estimating Specialist. Rob brings a lot of computer networking and IT experience to help them grow. Rob has implemented a new backup system that has many redundancies which protects customer files. With this new system they also have all the offices tied together with sharing files for better customer service, Esser said.

Esser himself has been with the business for 23 years and took over as General Manager last year.

Obviously, with technological progress, there have been huge changes for the print industry over the last 25 years. Esser said they do their best to evolve with the industry.

“With graphic designers in each office keeping abreast of the latest technology, an estimating system that allows Quik Print to track job history and offer a consistent pricing, multiple offset presses, a state of the art digital press, a wide format printer, and extensive bindery equipment, Quik Print is poised to continue growing into the future,” he said.
Esser is very happy and thankful that the business has and continues to thrive.

“I’m very humbled and honored. I’m very thankful to the Marshfield and surrounding Community for all their support,” he said.
