Planning Your Summer Picnic with Festival Foods

City Parks Offer Picnic Opportunities

Whether out on the patio or at a picnic table in a park, picnicking is the perfect summer pastime.

With his wife, two kids, and their dog, Festival Foods Store Manager and picnic expert Marty Chy often takes advantage of the city’s trails, nature preserves, and parks to hike and bird-watch. Marshfield’s centralized location also allows quick access to Mead Wildlife Area nearby, a family favorite for a day of picnicking and hiking.

“We love adventuring in the outdoors,” said Chy. “That’s part of what had us excited to move to Marshfield area – all the great places nearby to go out and about.”

Festival Foods provides options for both a quick lunch on the road or a more formal meal. During a day out with the family, Chy’s go-to packed lunch is a monster sub from the deli and packed fruit from the produce department. Another favorite on hikes is mini sandwiches of crackers, cucumber, sausage, and cheese. Ready-made sandwiches are also hardy enough to take to the trail in a backpack.

For more formal summer meals or larger gatherings outdoors, the deli offers large fruit, cheese, and sausage platters that can be picked up or ordered specially. There are also the picnic classics like picnic chicken, or pasta and potato salads.

“It’s pretty easy to do planning out or spur of the moment,” said Chy. “Even if you don’t have a big plan, you can walk in the store, and for not a lot of money you just walk out with a couple of sandwiches and picnic chicken, and there you go.”

Festival Foods offers picnic essentials, like paper plates and utensils, for easy clean-up. A favorite picnic spot in town is Wildwood Park with its numerous picnic tables, kids playground, and free zoo. There are many other family-friendly picnic spots as well, whether it’s Braem Park or Griese Park.

“You can choose your adventure,” said Chy.
