Holiday Show to Benefit Teacher Sarah Freedlund
There is still time to enjoy dinner and a show at Pittsville Area Community Theater (PACT), as the group continues performances of their first dinner theater this holiday season with “Not a Creature was Stirring, Not Even a Moose.”
A family-appropriate, holiday play about a crooked newspaper editor finding the spirit of Christmas, written by Pat Cook and directed by Steve Allar, debuted on December 1 to rave reviews.
“The opening show was such fun,” said Roseanne Davis, performer and member of PACT. “We had the greatest audience! We sold 93 out of 96 tickets, so that’s pretty much a full house! It was an excellent performance, an excellent evening. The food was wonderful and we got five volunteers from Kohl’s to help serve.”
Proceeds from the dinner theater benefit Sarah Freedlund, PACT longtime vice president, who is battling cancer.
“We’ve been wanting to do a benefit for a while because the community has been good to us,” said Davis. “They let us get on the stage and they clap and they laugh at us and they give us money, so we really felt it was time to give something back.”
While the show is a fun transition into the Christmas spirit, complete with delicious food from Baum’s Catering, it also embraces the generosity of the season.
“The food is wonderful and it’s for a great benefit,” said Davis. “We have seventy-seven baskets to raffle off. That is how much this community loves Sarah Freedlund. We have a quilt made by the 4H kids, two half-hogs cut, wrapped, and frozen, fishing, hunting, and BBQ baskets. We have a basket that’s $325 worth of gift cards. It’s amazing!”
Along with being a longtime supporter of PACT, Freedlund also serves as the drama and forensics teacher at Pittsville High School. “She’s really had an impact, so that’s another good reason to come to the play,” said Davis.
