Beautiful Music to Kick Off Holy Week
As spring-like weather rolls in and jelly beans start popping up on store shelves, many of us start to ponder our Easter plans. The annual Palm Sunday Concert, hosted at Marshfield’s Our Lady of Peace Church, is a festive way to start off Holy Week, a week of religious preparation before Easter Sunday.
The annual concert has long been a staple in the community on Palm Sunday, offering an afternoon of sacred music to delight community goers for 63 years. Over 75 chorus members from many different churches throughout Colby, Wausau, Marshfield, Spencer & Loyal practice for over 10 weeks to provide the audience with a combination of spirituals and hymns.
“The annual Palm Sunday concert is a unique and historical event in the City of Marshfield. Listeners tell us that it provides a religious and spiritual "lift" for the start of Holy Week. A broad selection of music is sung from centuries-old music to classical, spirituals, and contemporary pieces,” said Margaret Brubaker, President of the Palm Sunday Chorus Board of Directors.
Each year, the chorus hosts a different guest director to lead their performance. This year they welcome guest director Dr. Daniel David Black, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wisconsin
This musical event is a great choice for families since it is free to the public. The chorus only asks for a free will donation during the concert. For more information about the concert click here to visit the Palm Sunday Chorus on Facebook.
