If the “force” is strong in your house…you might want to check out The Movie in the Park option for this weekend!
Movie goers will be treated to, (wait we can’t say here, scroll to the bottom) at the Fairgrounds, 513 E. 17th St., this Friday June 24 hosted by Movies in the Park.
Not only is this movie “in the park” but this movie is also being shown as a drive-in movie. The movie will start around dusk (about 9 p.m.) and is completely free to the public.
Movies in the Park, which is a volunteer organization that began in 2010 as a Leadership Marshfield project, hosts four movies in outdoor venues throughout Marshfield during the summer months. They will also be hosting the movie July and in August.
Group member Brad Remmen said they begin planning for the summer movies in late winter and use suggestions from group members, family and friends, and the general public (via Facebook) to decide on which movies they should show.
They try to offer a little bit for everyone.
“We try to pick more kid oriented movies for the events that have more kids (Dairyfest and Hub City Days) and slightly more mature movies for the other events (drive-in and August). We also try to coincide with other events as this helps attendance,” he said.
As the movies are shown in outdoor venues, weather has to be a consideration and rain can become an issue, as it did for the deluge of rain that happened at this year’s Picnic in the Park had to be cancelled.
“In the event of rain, we try to find another event at which we can show our movie, but this is difficult because plans are always set far in advance. When we had rain dates in the past, attendance is very low. So we have not set them up the last few years. It really depends on the event that is rained out and how much time we have to make up the date,” Remmen said.
Remmen is glad the community seems to enjoy the movie showings and is glad that their sponsors help the enable the organization to continue. The sponsors are: Marshfield Clinic (main sponsor), HoChunk Casino, Dental Clinic of Marshfield, Festival Foods, & Marshfield Professional Police Association. He said support from MACCI and the City of Marshfield is very helpful.
