Garden centers used to be relatively basic operations, simply places where there were lines of greenhouses and lots of flowers and plants to choose from.
Lately, Marshfield’s local garden centers are really stepping up their game…adding fun activities to do with loved ones to bring a little more beauty to any home.
Mill Creek Gardens, 8839 Mill Creek Dr., has been hosting new workshops since March and they are having a lot of success with it, according to owners Danielle & Erik Winer.
“We started doing workshops in March this year & they have been received very well,” said Danielle Winer. “We were looking for new ways to bring people in of all ages & backgrounds. We thought interactive workshops could be a way to do that. We live in the age of Pinterest, and not everyone has the time or resources to actually do the crafts they pin on their boards.”
These workshops are just another way to further the mission at Mill Creek, according to owners.
“At Mill Creek Gardens, our mission is to ‘Beatify our community & inspire others to create their own beauty.’ We hope that our workshops encourage people to scratch their creative itch & enjoy doing something with their hands for a few hours,” she said.
In addition to adding a little beauty to your home, Winer thinks the workshops can be very relaxing for her customers.
“We live in a pretty sanitized world – sometimes getting your hands dirty can be therapeutic,” she said.
For Explorers looking to participate in the workshops, there are several coming up this fall, including four Fall Whiskey Barrel Workshops in September.
“At these workshops, guests are invited to enjoy refreshments as they plant 1 or 2 whiskey barrels with fall mums & grass,” explained Winer. “Amazingly enough, these classes filled up in about a week.”
She is also hosting two sign painting classes.
“One new class that I am particularly excited about is the Customized Family Name Sign Painting (Sept 23). Guests will paint their own family name & established year on rustic barn board sign,” she said.
The DIY Reclaimed Wood Sign painting (Sept 16) is also back by popular demand this fall.
“Guests are able to pick out a unique barn board (from a Wisconsin barn) & choose a phrase & paint away,” she said.
There is still room to sign up for these painting classes. For those worried about not being crafty enough for these amazing projects, Winer doesn’t think there is any need to worry.
“I think our staff does a great job of meeting people where they are. If you haven’t gardened before, no problem!” she said. ” We are so glad you’ve come! We start you off slow & make sure you learn a few things and are comfortable with what your taking home. If you don’t think you’re a good painter, think again! We make sure you leave with something you are proud of.”
She thinks their track record shows how user-friendly and fun they make the workshops.
“Everyone leaves our workshops with a smile & a few new friends! And I think when you have guests coming back for 2 or 3 workshops within the summer, that speaks for itself,” she said.
