Sierra Huser has been an active member of the fair since she was just three years old showing animals in the Little Britches show, and this year Huser represents the Central Wisconsin State Fair as “Fairest of the Fair,” an honored bestowed to one individual each season. The Fairest of the Fair serves as a spokesperson and official host for the Fair, and as an ambassador to the larger Central Wisconsin community.
A Snyder 4-H member for the past 14 years, she has also been active in many project areas, including market animals, woodworking, knitting, sewing, food preservation, and her favorite: the dairy project.
“My parents are my clubs leaders, so as a youngster I was always ‘helping out’ the dairy kids, as well as working the Snyder 4-H food stand on top of it all,” said Huser, who has shown at the fair every year since her first and been very successful in showmanship- winning 5 of her 10 years showing.
“I can say that the CWSF has help shape me into the young adult I am today,” she said.
As Fairest of the Fair, Huser will serve a one year term, receive a $1,000 prize and also compete in the State Fairest of the Fair competition in January of 2017. Her position will include instruction in the areas of public speaking, etiquette, confidence, giving presentations, self and event instructions, participate in parades, radio and television interviews and so much more.
“To be crowned the 2016 Fairest of the Fair means so much more than getting to wear a crown,” said Huser. “It means that I am now a representative of the Fair. I like to say I grew up at the fairgrounds, since I basically knew the whole layout by time I was only five. To be able to showcase the fair to the best of my ability is truly an honor, since it has given me so much already.”
Huser is looking forward to promoting the Fairest of the Fair program to other youth.
“Even if you don’t win, it’s still a life experience that you will never regret,” she said. “The interview and public speaking that we do are things in life that we should always be prepared for. You will learn so much about interviews, etiquette, public speaking, and just how to be prepared for any sort of experience or situation you might run into.”
As a long-time supporter of the Fair, Huser is excited to be the face of this year’s festivities.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in 4-H, and am so honored and excited that I get to do so as this year’s Fairest if the Fair,” she said.
