Explore Marshfield – Mayor’s Dairyfest Breakfast
Only in Wisconsin can eating a hearty breakfast that includes ice cream be considered normal, and for the past 35 years the thousands that attend the Mayor’s Dairyfest Breakfast have enjoyed just that and more.
Hosted by the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry in conjunction with the City of Marshfield, the Mayor’s Breakfast is a delicious start to Dairyfest, a community festival honoring the dairy industry.
Hundreds of people volunteer each year and an average of 2,000 people will enjoy the scrambled egg omelet (filled with cheese, ham, mushrooms, onions, and new this year-hashbrowns!), squeaky fresh cheese curds, assorted muffins, bananas, milk, coffee, and of course…ice cream with strawberries.
Throughout the morning, visitors are welcomed live musical entertainment. WDLB Radio hosts a live broadcast from the breakfast, and guests have the chance to win door prizes donated by local businesses. Each year also features a new souvenir coffee mug.
“The Mayor’s Breakfast, along with the entire Dairyfest weekend, is truly a community event,” said coordinator Amy Krogman, now in her 24th year. “We certainly could not have this breakfast without the support of the local businesses with their donations or the 275 volunteers who do everything starting with the setup and ending with the clean-up. I am always amazed at how early people are willing to get up to help! I may coordinate the breakfast, but it’s the community who makes it happen.”
Elected in 2008, Mayor Chris Meyer has enjoyed his 8 years representing his title at the Mayor’s Breakfast at Dairyfest.
“I enjoy the breakfast because I get to see and interact with so many people, and at least for that day, the only political discussion is about whether there should be onions in the scrambled eggs or not,” he said, adding that food has a way of bringing people together.
“We are brought together with food during the holidays, life events and community events. The weekend of Dairyfest starts with the Dairy Breakfast, a time when all of us can come together, enjoy good food and good company while celebrating our collective community,” he said.
Whether a breakfast person or not, all are encouraged to join in the fun at the Mayor’s Breakfast this Dairyfest!
“If you enjoy a hearty breakfast with everything from scrambled eggs to ice cream, then the Dairy breakfast is for you!” added Meyer. “If you don’t like breakfast, you can still come and enjoy the atmosphere, catch up with old friends and enjoy the start of summer.”
