Mayor’s Breakfast a Dairyfest Tradition

Mayor’s Breakfast Kickoff to Dairyfest

Acting as the kickoff event to Dairyfest, the Mayor’s Breakfast is a delicious tradition for many.

“I think that’s one of the best thing about the breakfast: it’s a tradition for people to come every year,” said coordinator Amy Krogman.

Hosted by the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry in conjunction with the City of Marshfield, the breakfast will be Friday, June 1 from 5:30-9:30 a.m. Around 300 volunteers and an estimated 2100-2200 people will attend the breakfast during a weekend celebration of Wisconsin’s dairy industry.

On the menu is a delicious scrambled egg skillet (with cheese, ham, mushrooms, onions, and hashbrowns), squeaky fresh cheese curds, assorted muffins, bananas, milk, coffee, and ice cream with strawberries, all provided by area businesses. Tickets are $6 for ages 7 and up, and can be purchased in advance at MACCI until May 31 to avoid the line or on the day of the event at the Expo Building located inside the Fairgrounds.

The first person in line receives a Wisconsin Dells ticket package prize from WDLB/WOSQ radio. DJ music by the Candi Shop will perform until 9:30 and a live radio broadcast is provided by WDLB until 9. Have the chance to win door prizes and pick up a free souvenir mug with the Dairyfest logo. T-shirts are just $5 at the breakfast and are red this year.

Such a big event takes a lot of planning and coordination, but going into her 26th breakfast, Krogman has it down to a science.

“She puts in a lot of coordination,” said Debbie Bauer, MACCI Program Director. “You can imagine coordinating 300 volunteers. They’re coming in on three different shifts, so each time there’s a shift change you have all these volunteers to check in and give direction to. She does a fantastic job coordinating them.”

Planning begins about 3-4 months before the event, and the weeks leading up to it are busy for Krogman, who lines up the food items and schedules volunteers. “Right now is my crunch period,” she said.

All the planning pays off on the day, and it’s a sign of relief for Krogram, who sees the Mayor’s Breakfast as the official start to summer. Bauer, who helps line up the food items, enjoys seeing the excitement and camaraderie.

“People sit there and drink coffee, and that’s so cool to see,” she said. “I wouldn’t miss the breakfast for anything!”
