by Cassi Shook – The 6th Annual Marshfield Parish Pull returns Friday, July 13 with with two new pulling tracks. Started in 2012, the idea for the Parish Pull was suggested by St. John the Baptist member Dan McGiveron, who had been exposed to truck and tractor pulls since he was young and is very involved with the church.
The Parish Pull is another way for the church to get involved in the community in addition to Sunday worship. Currently, it takes 300 volunteers to run.
Different classes of trucks and tractors will compete to see how fast and far they can pull a certain weight. Marshfield has competitors that come from all over the state as well as a few from other states.
This year, the Marshfield Parish Pull is introducing a second pull lane. In previous years, the pulling classes were staggered, but the competitors can now compete side by side. The second pull lane is meant to increase the speed and make the pull go faster.
“We welcome everyone to come and have fun,” said McGiveron.
The event begins Friday night July 13, 2018. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. at the Fairgrounds for concessions with the pull at 7:00 pm. Children under four years old get in for free; ages 5-15, admission is $5; ages 16 and up, admission is $8. Raffles and various door prizes are available.
