Marshfield Civic Band
With more than 120 years of providing music for Marshfield and the surrounding areas, Marshfield Civic Band continues to impress crowds at their summertime Wednesday evening performances at the Columbia Park Band Shell.
Founded in 1895 under the direction of Albert P. Adams with Fred W Kohl as drum major, the Badger State Band performed for four years as a civic band before being named the Second Regiment Band of the Wisconsin National Guard. For 62 years, the band performed as a military band under various divisions and names, until in 1961 it formally became the “Marshfield Civic Band.”
Though a predominantly male group for most of its history, today’s band is open to anyone who wishes to perform.
Concerts take place in Columbia Park’s bandshell, a historic building listed on the National Register of Historic Places and with the Wisconsin Historical Society. Originally constructed in 1931, the bandshell underwent construction in 2009 to repair and replace various elements of the structure to help restore its historical features.
