Marshfield Chaparrals Baseball Club

There is perhaps nothing that symbolizes an American summer more than a baseball game, and Marshfield’s Chaparrals Baseball Club features local talent and college athletes from around the Central Wisconsin area to provide a fun family environment to enjoy America’s favorite pastime.

With a history that extends more than 60 years (with the team being officially organized in 1982 as a non-profit), the Chaparrals were voted “Marshfield’s Best Sporting Event” in 2016 for a reason.

“We put a great product on the field,” said Adam Severt, Board Member.

Managed by Justin Rayburn, the team plays about 24 games per year, both home and away.

“Anybody can tryout for the Chaps,” said Severt, adding that there are a few tryouts each year before the season starts. “We usually take over 20 year-olds because of the success of our Marshfield Clinic Legion Baseball team and you can be as old as you want to play.”

Each game not only features nine innings of skilled baseball, but also fun activities and giveaways for all ages. Children can “run the bases” before each game to qualify for special prizes like ice cream and pizza donated by local businesses. During the game, there is the “beer batter,” a player designated from the other team who, if he gets struck out by the Chaparral pitcher, all beverages in the concession stand are half-off for the next half inning.

“We have all ages of fans,” said Severt. “We have older fans that used to watched the Chaparrals play when they were kids and now it brings back great memories. Also, ex-players that resided in Marshfield show up for a lot of the home games.”

Each game is also kid-friendly.

“For the kids, if they retrieve a foul ball and bring it to the concession stand, they get a .50 cents and a chance to sign up to win a bike at the last home game of the season,” said Severt. “Before each home game, kids can run the bases and have a chance to win prizes from our great sponsors.”

For those with young families, Severt suggests trying a Chaparrals game as a trial run for a Brewers or Twins game. That being said, all ages can enjoy a game right here in Marshfield.

For a fun summer afternoon of quality base-running and hometown camaraderie, see a Chaparral home game at Jack Hackman Field (205 S Oak Avenue).

Admission is free. Parking is available on-site (and if your windshield gets busted by a foul ball, Central Wisconsin Glass will replace it for free!). A concession stand stocked with popcorn, beer, and candy is open during each game, with hot dogs and brats from Wenzel Farms. Raffle tickets are also available for purchase, giving spectators a chance to win gift cards and merchandise donated by local businesses. See the complete Chaparral schedule for a list of promotions and giveaways.
