Marshfield Area Community Foundation: Griese Park

Over 20 years ago Dr. George and Margaret Griese donated land to the City of Marshfield to develop a new park on the south side of the City. One of the key features of the new park was going to be the development of soccer fields to help address the need due to the fast growing interest in the sport of soccer.

City funding was not sufficient to fully develop the park and that is when Marsh 21 through its Griese Park fund at the Marshfield Area Community Foundation and others stepped forward to raise funds to partner with the City to develop Griese Park. Today, Griese Park provides quality soccer fields for the Marshfield Youth Soccer Association, Columbus High School, School District of Marshfield, and Optimist Youth Soccer.

Travel past Griese Park on a Sunday afternoon in September and you will find the Optimist Soccer program underway and the park full of children and families enjoying an outdoor activity in Marshfield.  Griese Park is a great example of how the Marshfield Area Community Foundation can bring together both large and small donations to make Marshfield and the surrounding area a better place for our families to live.

Griese Park is another addition to MACF’s long list of contributions to the community, which include the Adler Kodiak Bear Exhibit at the Wildwood Zoo, Wildwood Station, Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library, Hackman Field, the Youth Baseball fields, Weber Park, Hamus Park, Hardacre Park, Braem Park Disk Golf, the Skate Park, Boson Tennis Complex, Tiny Tiger Intergenerational Center, the ACE Academy, Griese Park, and many, many more.

A tax exempt, non-profit organization, MACF uses public support to better connect those with a cause in mind to its completion while taking care of administrative tasks, and continues to establish permanent, named funds for public benefit.
