Learn to Prune Roses with Master Gardeners at Upham Mansion

Learn from the experts about how to manage roses through the Master Gardener mentoring program at the Upham Mansion on Saturday, April 27 from 1-2 p.m.

During the session, which is open to both NWCHS members and the general public, participants will learn how to prune roses. The Heritage Rose Garden at the mansion is home to thirty historical rose plants, some of which date back to the Roman Empire around 200 AD. The class is especially beneficial for those with older species of roses in their gardens.

Bring leather gloves, large and small pruning shears. Afterwards, help is appreciated for mulching the gardens from 2-5:30 p.m.

The roses typically bloom from mid-June until early July. Though their bloom is short, Master Gardeners spend hundreds or hours per year tending to the garden, including weeding, beetle control, and winter prep.
