Tickets on Sale Now for Irish Quartet
We Banjo 3, a quartet from Galway, Ireland, will perform at the Chestnut Center for the Arts on Aug. 9 at 7 p.m.
“They are amazing,” said Executive Director Adam Smrcka. “Their onstage presence, their quality of sound is by far one of the highest we have here.”
Composed of two sets of brothers, Enda and Fergal Scahill and Martin and David Howley, collectively, We Banjo 3 is among the most celebrated and distinguished musicians in Ireland today, even being recently named the “Galway Band of The Year 2016.”
Blending traditional Irish music with Americana and bluegrass, a combination affectionately described as “Celtgrass,” their music features banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, vocals, and percussion.
“They are very well known for their music and I think people traditionally hear the word ‘banjo’ and they immediately think it’s going to be ‘hillbilly-ish,’ but it’s totally not that at all,” said Smrcka. “It is an extremely uptempo concert. They have a wide variety of music, everything from upbeat numbers to really nice ballads. They are amazing musicians.”
In March 2016, We Banjo 3 was selected to perform at the annual Friends of Ireland luncheon on Capitol Hill, with former Pres. Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Paul Ryan, and Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny all in attendance.
They released their fourth album, “String Theory,” in the summer of 2016 to coincide with a U.S. summer and fall tour. The album went to No. 1 on the Billboard World Albums Chart on Aug. 20, 2016.
We Banjo 3 tours year-round, performing in Ireland, the U.S., Japan, Europe, and Australia, and has visited the Chestnut Center several times along the way.
“They really love the venue and they have taken a nice liking to the Chestnut Center,” said Smrcka. “We really pride ourselves on quality of entertainment and making it accessible to all demographics and making it very family-friendly. We want people of all ages to enjoy the arts.”
The concert is also the first one hosted by Chestnut Center that offers online ticketing, through website EventBrite.
“We’ve been wanting to do online tickets for a while, for convenience for the concertgoer and patrons,” said Smrcka. “The reason we went with EventBrite is they do really good rates with nonprofits,” said Smrcka. “They also do a really good job connecting to social media.”
Also new to Chestnut Center concerts is the ability to enjoy wine and beer with the show, as the Center just acquired a Liquor License.
Smrcka encourages everyone to experience great music and enjoy a night of world-famous music right here in Marshfield.
“It’s an awesome concert,” he said. “Something that you don’t want to miss.”
Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. This event is open to patrons of all ages. For more information call 715-389-8999 or visit chestnutarts.org.
