Sweet Treats for Sweet Causes
For everyone that has been craving some Hub City Ice Cream, there will be opportunities to enjoy a frozen dessert during the next two weekends as the popular shoppe will be hosting two fundraising groups.
From December 2-4, Marshfield Senior High School Spanish Students are fundraising to offset expenses of a humanitarian trip to Costa Rica. On December 9-11, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood County will be handling the scoop. While Hub City Ice Cream donates the ice cream, supplies and the facility, the organizations provides the labor.
“We have a smaller ice cream treat selection and give them training at the beginning of their shift,” said Sandy Freeman, owner. “We help a little with the operation and close but they do most of the work.”
During both weekends, 100% of all sales will go to these worthy causes, something that is important to helping achieve their missions.
“Our entire program is free for all participants and having support from fundraisers like Hub City Ice Cream allows our program to keep the doors open and provide hope to the children in our community,” said Heidi Goblirsch, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood County.”
The program changes lives, and every penny helps.
“We provide one-on-one mentoring for children in the community, along with monthly case management check-ins for the first year with Bigs, Littles and their families,” she said. “Our Bigs help create support systems, build confidence, help develop skills needed in the real world, and provide experiences for our Littles.”
She added that Hub City Ice Cream is a wonderful asset to the community.
“Hub City Ice Cream is a popular spot for one of our matches to come to in the summer to hang out and enjoy some tasty ice cream,” she said. “The owners are so generous and we ended up discussing possibly opening during Winter Wonderland to help out in the community. They agreed to allow this awesome opportunity to happen and can’t wait to watch memories being created.”
As avid supporters of the community, Sandy and her husband Dave are happy to help local causes during their offseason.
“Our customers were always asking us why we close and if we would consider staying open through Christmas. My husband and I work full time jobs and look forward to the break,” said Sandy. “ But we thought it was a shame we were heating a closed building and decided to inquire if there were any organizations that would be interested in scooping ice cream to earn money for their cause.”
Last year, the business hosted Community Outreach and Marshfield Area Pet Shelter.
“It was very successful and went well with the Rotary Winter Wonderland at Wildwood,” said Sandy, who added that supporting the community is important to her and her husband. “We have lived in Marshfield for over 30 years and raised our family here. It’s been a great place to live and has provided us with a wonderful life. We also want to give back to everyone who has helped make Hub City Ice Cream be successful.”
Sandy encourages any organization looking to fundraise to call or stop down.
“We are always open to new ideas and we love to help a worthy cause,” she said.
